According to the dictionary, in the natural sense, a vulture is a large predatory bird that often gathers with others in anticipation of the death of a sick or injured animal or person, to feed voraciously and indiscriminately on carrion. As an aside, the eating of carrion from the same species is referred to as cannibalism.
Rarely will vultures feed off healthy animals but are known at times to kill the wounded or the sick. If the carrion has a hide too thick for its beak to open, it will patiently wait for a larger scavenger to eat first.
However, the secondary meaning of vulture is defined as a contemptible person who naturally preys or exploits others, a person of a rapacious, predatory, or profiteering nature, and a person who is greedy with the associated trait of waiting for someone to die or to fail.
When Babylon held Judah (Jacob) captive, his brother Edom (Esau) rejoiced and killed many of his brothers that the Babylonians had left behind. The God of Recompense stood up on Zion's behalf because "Israel was holiness unto the LORD, and the firstfruits of his increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD" (Jeremiah 2:3).
Consequently, God's anger was hot against Edom for committing fratricide and He sent prophets to prophecy of Edom's judgment and impending doom. Edom, in his greed, sought to enlarge his borders, which was the catalyst to Babylon's cruelty towards Judah.
"Remember, Lord, what the Edomites did on the day Jerusalem fell. “Tear it down,” they cried, “tear it down to its foundations!” (Psalm 137:7, NIV)
This is what the Sovereign Lord says: In my burning zeal I have spoken against the rest of the nations, and against all Edom, for with glee and with malice in their hearts they made my land their own possession so that they might plunder its pastureland (Ezekiel 36:5, NIV).
If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy that person; for God's temple is sacred, and you together are that temple (1 Corinthians 3:17, NIV).
Thus, we have learned through the reading of Scripture that God is protective and exacts vengeance on behalf those who belong to him. No doubt, God has the power to prevent our enemies from thrashing us, but often does nothing while we are going through and enduring our trials and tribulations, but after a while He stands up on our behalf and thrashes our enemies to the extent that we never have to behold their faces again in this life. God uses our enemies, the sons and daughters of Satan to teach us discipline and obedience, and once we have graduated from God's Life Class, He no longer have need of the wicked who are then turned into eternal hell.
As we are the temple of God, the presence of God is in us through the Holy Spirit. We are the anointed Body of Christ, the Church of the Living God, and scriptures warns the foolish; "Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm" (1 Chronicles 16:22, KJV). Nevertheless, people with vulture-like mentalities seemingly have lost their reverence for God and proceed without caution to bite and devour the lambs of God, voraciously preying on the innocent congregation of the Holy God of all creation. It is unfathomable to comprehend what sort of deeds lead to such an incredible darkness of the mind.
For surely only the darkest of minds would dare to trespass on the land that God has set aside for himself, yet wonder of wonders, in the modern day churches we find the vultures circling their prey with smiling faces that fail to reveal that beneath the veil of brotherhood lies the cruelest betrayal, the tendency to transform unnoticed into the behavior of hungry vultures indiscriminately feeding on the unaware, naive, innocent flock of God.
Spiritual fratricides and sororicide can be defined as the killing of one's brother and sisters within the Body of Christ. Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter (Psalm 44:22). The true Body of Christ, worshiping within the physical structures of churches, is afflicted and oppressed, abused and used, and treated as an inconsequential people with no one to defend them. Thus, we have tares growing side by side among the wheat, but the time of harvest has come and the separation of the wheat from the tares or the vultures has arrived. God has the fires of hell waiting for a backslidden people bold enough to feed at the table that God has prepared for his chosen.
Like vultures plucking the flesh off carcasses in the wilderness, so have the hypocrites in the church plucked off the flesh of God's people, bite by bite, with insatiable appetites birthed in the chambers of wickedness and witchcraft, which is the only place left for the rebellious to reside after they have re-crucified the Lord Jesus Christ with their backsliding ways. So what we have then is the bowels of hell, the sons and daughters of Satan seemingly taking up permanent residence interspersed throughout the Body of Christ, acting, talking, dressing, singing, preaching, and teaching just like Christians; vultures adorned in the facade of righteousness all of which God pierces through with eyes that see everything.
How, one might ask at this juncture, can spiritual blindness be so severe that it would cause one to approach the children of God and do them harm. *"Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offenses will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come! It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones" (Luke 17:1-2). The Body of Christ is not the possession of the wicked to be plundered at will, but we are the expression of God's everlasting love through Christ Jesus, who died for the sins of the world. How then can anyone in their right mind throw that gift back into the face of God as though it was worthless?
Sitting in church Sunday after Sunday, listening to the Word that must be going in one ear and right on out the other one, failing even to pause, and they to even consider the approaching ramifications of hypocrisy headed directly their way; the unflappable duo Death and Destruction.
Jacob became the tribe Israel and was holiness to the Lord. "Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures (James 1:18). If God defended Israel, his firstfruits, so will he defend his church because we are holy unto him, set aside for his glory, not to be devoured by hell bound backslidden reprobates who have rejected the love of God wholeheartedly.
Psalms 14:4 speaks about the wicked eating the people of God like bread, obviously, to my knowledge, we are not talking about literal cannibalism but something on a far more insidious level; spiritual cannibalism, the hidden threads of evil interwoven into the very fabric of what church is supposed to be; pure praise and worship in the presence of the Lord.
Instead, what we have then is a church populated by lost souls whose only hope is this world alone, for they have surreptitiously forfeited their right to eternal life in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ, and have in lieu opted to obey their father of choice, the devil, aka Satan, the fallen archangel.
No longer fearful of the Father of all, the Creator of all that is and will be, the wicked turn, as it were, blatant cartwheels of sin constantly and unrestrained in the church, doing whatsoever it pleases them to do, disregarding the distinct inevitability that their judgment is just around the corner, and their doom is sealed. God reveals to us through the reading of his Word that he is one who metes out retribution, failing not the visit the wicked to pour the evil seeds that they have sown back atop their own heads.
Why then do the wicked persist in their evil ways? According to Romans 1:18-32, it is because their sins have darkened their minds to the extent that they cannot perceive their true condition, otherwise they would flee Satan's tenacious grasp with haste. Locked in the throes of death and destruction, knowing nothing else, having cast the Lord Jesus Christ behind their back as though he was nobody, the disobedient wicked souls, who blithely stroll into church every Sunday, seemingly are unaware that their steps in this world are running out with each passing hour, until finally, the sun goes down on their life, and they are left fighting against Death as he stealthily approaches them and takes them away to await the final judgment of God.
Their last breath in this life now gone, immorally seized youth and strength now an eternal memory, I must peak over into the dark caverns of hell and ask them a pertinent question. Was it worth it?
*Bozrah was the capital city of Idume'a (Edom). According to the Old Testament, the city was the homeland of Jacob's twin brother, Esau. Bozrah means"sheepfold" and was a pastoral city in Edom southeast of the Dead Sea.
*In the New Testament the Daughter of Zion is the bride of Christ, also known as the Church, according to the writer of the book of Hebrews. In this sense the lower hill with the temple mount is of course the Daughter of Zion as a geographical or 'earthly' manifestation of spiritual reality, as well as the lively and alive place of the human congregation.
In the time of Nebuchadnezzar II the Edomites helped plunder Jerusalem and slaughter the Judaeans. For this reason the Prophets denounced Edom violently.
*Millstones could weigh anywhere from 100 to 1000 pounds.
